Crafting a Bespoke Pen Sleeve: Protecting My Montblanc Starwalker
As someone who cherishes fine craftsmanship, I’ve always admired the artistry of my Montblanc Starwalker Blue Planet Doué Fountain Pen. However, finding the perfect way to store and protect it remained a challenge. Inspired by my collection of premium materials, I decided to create a bespoke pen sleeve that would not only safeguard my pen but also showcase its elegance.
For the exterior, I selected blue shell cordovan leather from Leder Ogawa in Japan, known for its exceptional quality and luxurious finish. The interior features red Walpier Buttero vegetable-tanned leather, providing both protection and contrast. Saddle-stitched by hand with Meisi super fine linen thread, the edges were mirror-polished and treated with a wax coat for added durability, while the leather surface was nourished with Saphir cordovan cream for a lasting shine.
This project reminded me why I love working with leather—it’s about merging functionality with beauty. The finished sleeve not only protects my Montblanc but also celebrates the art of handmade design.
